In a testament to the successes achieved by the Indian security forces against Pakistan backed Kashmiri terrorists, the terror outfits have apparently directed their families to go underground, as reported by ZeeNews.
The army has been on an operation to clear the valley of the terrorists that has so far seen 190 terrorists being killed this year till now. Combined with an outreach to the locals who have joined the terrorist ranks, including through their families, the security forces have been able to decimate the terrorist cells that had risen again in recent times.
The development follows an encounter, where security forces killed six Pakistani terrorists including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi’s nephew. Rehman is being sheltered by Pakistan which clearly indicates it’s role as the prime terror sponsor in the region. Three other terrorists were killed in another encounter yesterday in Kupwara district, who’re also said to be affiliated with the LeT.
Notably, recent appeals by the security agencies to the terrorists - through their families - have been successful in getting them to surrender, prominently in the case of footballer-turned-terrorist Majid Khan, who surrendered three days after joining the LeT. This step might be aimed by the terrorists to prevent such desertions too.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
