Assam Government Makes Sanskrit Mandatory Up To Class VIII

Taking a historic step towards reviving Sanskrit, the government of Assam on Tuesday announced that the language has been made mandatory up to class VIII in the state. In most parts of the country, Sanskrit is offered only as an optional subject for three years.
Sarbananda Sonowal, Chief Minister of Assam, took to Twitter to inform about the recent decisions that his government has taken to improve the education system in Assam.
Apart from making Sanskrit mandatory, the cabinet also created a post to monitor cleanliness in government-run schools under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Assam government has also decided to appoint a computer teacher in all high schools to provide students access to computer education.
