At 18,732 New Cases, India Records Lowest Fresh Covid-19 Cases For Any Day In Six Months

In a positive development in India's fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, the nation registered 18,732 fresh cases of the infectious disease yesterday (26 December) as per the data updated at 8 am today, which is the lowest tally recorded in nearly six months, reports Times of India.

Before this, on 1 July nation had recorded 18,653 cases. After this, the number of daily cases continued to rise past this mark.

In another positive development, the national recovery rate has jumped to 95.82 per cent, with a total of 97,61,538 people having completely recuperated so far countrywide.

The death toll meanwhile stands at 1,47,622 lives, of which 279 deaths were recorded yesterday. Of these, 60 deaths were reported by Maharashtra, 33 by West Bengal, 23 by Delhi, 21 by Kerala, 14 by Uttar Pradesh, 13 by Uttarakhand and 12 each by Punjab and Chhattisgarh. The overall case fatality rate stands at 1.44 per cent.

Presently, there are 2,78,690 active cases in the country, which comprise of 2.73 per cent of the total caseload.
