Shankar further went to say that with the increasing automation, the number of people being hired is also due to come down. However automation may not necessarily be the reason behind fewer people being hired but could be the cause of the company’s below expected performance in the last fiscal. Infosys has hired 5,700 people in the first nine months of this fiscal, compared to the 17,000 during the same period last year. Infosys has trained 490 people in machine learning and artificial intelligence so far.

Wipro HR head Saurabh Govil confirmed that 3,200 people were released and reassigned in November 2016 to do more innovative work. The company aims to take the figure to 4,500 in the current fiscal.
