Protests have swept through Bangladesh after an18-year-old girl was burned to death by four men dressed in Burkhas for refusing to withdraw her complaint of sexual harassment against the principal of the madrasa where she was a student, reports India Today.

The victim had filed the complaint with local police on 27 March alleging that the principal, Maulana Siraj Ud Doula, used to touch her inappropriately at his office.

After the police arrested the principal, the victim and her family began to receive death threats from associates of the principal.

On 6 April, the girl was confronted at the roof of the Madrasa by four men who were covered in burqas in an attempt to hide their identities; they asked her to withdraw her complaint and then proceeded to douse her in kerosene and set her on fire when she refused their demand.

The victim succumbed to the burn injuries on 10 April at a hospital in Dhaka. Police have taken the attackers into custody and it has been revealed that they were all students of the same Madrasa.

Massive protests broke out throughout Bangladesh after the incident, with demonstrators pushing for justice for the victim.

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina me the kin of the girl and gave her assurance that everyone connecting with the murder would face legal action.
