India is a net exporter of electricity but power outages are still common in many parts of the country. (representative picture)
The conventional electricity generation in the nation increased by a solid 10.4 per cent in the bygone month of February, reports Economic Times.
The development gains significance as it marks the second straight month when the electricity generation has grown following from a consecutive four month decline.
It should also be noted that a year ago, in February 2019, the electricity generation had grown by just a per cent.
Furthermore, the growth in energy generation has been reported to be broad-based as coal-based electricity generation increased by about 10 per cent, hydro energy generation grew by about 18 per cent, renewable energy generation by about 14.5 per cent, and nuclear energy by about 8 per cent year on year.
Also, amongst the renewable energy segment, solar energy generation grew the most, expanding as much as 27 per cent.
