In a crude bomb blast, a seven-year-old boy named Afroz was killed in Burdwan, West Bengal on 22 March (Monday) as reported by Hindustan Times.

The explosion took place when the deceased was playing with another nine-year-old boy Ibrahim who is under treatment.

The boys triggered the explosion when they hit a packet containing crude bombs near their house in the city's Subhaspally area.

Locals rushed the boys to Burdwan medical college and hospital and informed the police.

Pintu Saha, the inspector-in-charge of the city, told PTI that the bomb squad had been intimated about the incident and an investigation is underway.

This is the fifth such reported incident, according to ANI, involving crude bombs in the poll-bound state of West Bengal in the past 34 days.

On 9 March, 200 crude bombs were recovered from South 24 Parganas district, and on 6 March, One Bjp worker was killed and five others injured in Rampur village of the same district.

On 23 February, four crude bombs were recovered from the Sluri area of Birbhum district.

West Bengal's Bengal Minister of State for Labour Jakir Hossain on Wednesday suffered injuries after unidentified persons hurled crude bombs on 18 February.

Election Commission, EC has sought a report of Monday's incident within 24 hours.
