A BJP youth leader named Priyanka Sharma has been arrested in West Bengal’s Howrah district for sharing a meme on social media wherein state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s face was superimposed on Priyanka Chopra’s recent Met Gala costume, DNA has reported.
The meme was posted on Thursday evening (9 May) and has gone viral since the news of the arrest broke:
The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BYJM) leader has been arrested following a complaint by TMC leader Vibhas Hazra who called it a “most awful post” and described the meme as “she cut the face of Mamata Banerjee from any picture and paste it on a picture of some model of something like that (sic)“.
Hazra thus alleged that via the meme, Sharma had insulted not just Mamata but also the culture of Bengal.
After her arrest, Sharma was produced before a Howrah court today (10 May).
