Bengal Not Giving Permission To Run Required Number Of Trains For Migrant Workers To Go Home: Piyush Goyal

Railways Minister Piyush Goyal while speaking to ANI slammed states like West Bengal, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand for not providing permission to run the required number of trains to ferry migrant workers back home.
As per Goyal, the Indian Railways has earmarked 1,200 trains to be run as Shramik Special for migrant workers to take them to their hometown. Despite this, Goyal says that the aforementioned states are not giving enough permission to run them.
Goyal said that West Bengal initially gave permission to only run two trains and following a written request by Home Minister Amit Shah allowed eight more, but as of yesterday (14 May) only gave written permission for five of those trains.
Goyal also said that Mamata Banerjee’s subsequent announcement to accept 105 trains in the next 30 days was too little a measure as it would only help around 1.5 lakh out of the 30-40 lakh migrant workers who are waiting to go back to Bengal.
Goyal instead appealed to the Bengal government to allow 105 trains to run every day so that the required number of migrant workers can be sent back home.
