West Bengal (Swarajya Graphic)
Fifteen people tested Covid-19 positive positive in Bengal Tuesday (31 March), taking the state’s tally to 37, the highest jump in a single day so far.
A man who died at the Nir Ratan Sircar Medical College was found to be Covid-19 positive, taking the state’s casualty count up to 5. The identity of the man has not been revealed so far.
Of the fifteen fresh cases detected Tuesday, three are family members--wife, daughter and son--of the army doctor who tested positive Sunday. Of the rest, one is a woman who returned from Italy recently and is being treated at a private hospital in Dum Dum.
The others include a 51-year-old resident of Salt Lake, a 52-year-old worker with an NGO residing in south Kolkata, another 52-year-old from Belgharia in North 24 Parganas, a 30-year-old from West Midnapore
The state health department has not released details of the remaining people who tested positive.
Meanwhile, the first three who tested positive in the state have tested negative after two confirmatory tests and doctors have declared them ‘fully recovered’. They are the 18-year-old student who had returned from the UK, the father of a young man from south Kolkata and a woman who had returned from Scotland.
The three have been asked to stay in home quarantine for two weeks as a precautionary measure. Another young man who was one of the first cases to be detected last week is also recovering.
