MP Tejasvi Surya with MLAs Satish Reddy and Uday Garudachar
IAS officers from Karnataka, zonal Covid war rooms along with senior BBMP officers got together and corrected the technical issues in the administrative body’s bed allocation system within 100 hours.
Volunteers from Nandan Nilekani-founded software product think-tank iSpirit and eGov Foundation were drafted in to overhaul the Covid Hospital Bed Management System (CHBMS).
Earlier, Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya had exposed the BBMP’s bribe-for-beds scam and then reached out to Nilekani on Twitter to recast the bed booking software.
Subsequently, Paypal senior software engineer Aishwariya Sankaravadivel along with her colleagues Ganeson Ravichandran and Praveen Kumar, Satish Parela from Cybrilla and iSpirit volunteer Sudhanshu Shekhar participated in the exercise.
Apparently, the objective was to transform the CHBMS into a unified dashboard including the bed management information along with the information management systems of the private hospitals as well, Times of India reports.
Mayank Natani, one of the volunteers, wrote on LinkedIn that the system has mechanisms of prioritizing critical patients or those with special needs. The exceptions will be facilitated by the zonal doctor in-charge but the required documentation will be tracked and logged in the system.
The refurbished system is set to efficiently handle the daily triaging and categorization of more than 20000 Covid-19 patients and allocate the 13800 beds that are available with the BBMP.
