Bengaluru Metro: Alstom Wins Rs 580 Crore To Provide Electrification Infra For 33 Km Phase-II Project

The Bengaluru Rail Metro Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has awarded Alstom a Rs 580 crore contract to provide power supply and traction electrification for the 33 km long extension to Bengaluru Metro under Phase II, Money Control reports.
This is the French Multinational Rail Transport company’s largest third-rail electrification contract in India, the company said. Phase II would extend the existing North to South and East to West corridors to increase the metro’s reach and reduce road congestion in the city.
According to the contract, the company would provide engineering, supply, installation, testing and commission to the 750V DC third-rail traction electrification, building 3- 33kv/415V auxiliary substations, 26 33kv/750V DC traction substations and one 33kv cable distribution network with the viaduct.
A company statement said that they would integrate the new infrastructure to the already existing system on the Phase I lines, and amplify the SCADA system. The project would be executed in five phases, and the first 6.5-km long stretch is expecting commission by 2019-end.
"Alstom's footprint in systems and infrastructure is growing rapidly, and this project will give us an opportunity to extend our cutting-edge capabilities and solutions to our customer," Managing Director, India and South Asia, Alstom, Alain Spohr said.
BMRCL Managing Director, Ajay Seth said that once the new line is commissioned, it would bring in much need flexibility into its network and at the same time reduce vehicular traffic significantly in the state capital.
In 2009, Alstom had also won the contract to provide the U200 signalling and telecommunication solutions for the 42 km long track of the Bengaluru Metro Phase I, which was completed in 2017.
