Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has awarded Jindal Steel and Power Ltd the contract to supply rails for the phase 2 of Bengaluru Metro project’s under construction lines, reports The Metro Rail Guy.

The contract is worth Rs 38.06 crore and the delivered rails could be laid either in the Yellow Line that is spread across 19.143 km, connecting RV Road-Silkboard-Electronic City-Bommansandra, or the 21.386 km long Pink Line that interlinks Nagawara-Kalena Agrahara (Gottigere). BMRCL had rolled out the invitation for the tenders of these 60 E1 880 grade rails in July 2020.

The BMRCL had set a year-long deadline while inviting bids for the project in July 2020. The Jindal Steel & Power were awarded the contract on 12 January. Reportedly, this is the third rail track laying contract given out by the BMRCL for the phase 2 project.

In May 2018, Texmaco Rail and Engineering was awarded the contract to deliver Rs 521 crore worth 60E1-880 grade rails.

Similarly, Mitsui & Co was contracted in 2019 to supply 60E1-1080 grade head hardened rails in December 2019.

The phase 2 of Bengaluru Metro is slated to be completed by 2023, though there could be some modifications to the deadline given the developing circumstances.
