The Kanakapura Road metro section that connects Yelachenahalli to Silk Institution station in south Bengaluru will be inaugurated on 14 January and opened up for operations from 15 January, Times of India reports.

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri will join Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to launch the extension on Green Line. Puri will join the event from New Delhi whereas CM Yediyurappa will flag it off at the metro station.

Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) Ajay Sethi told TOI, “The inauguration will be at 4.30 pm on 14 January. The public can use the service from 15 January.” This section comprises stations like Konankunate Cross, Doddakallasandra, Vajrahalli, Talaghattapura and Silk Institute.

The 6.4 elevated stretch was slated to be ready by the end of 2018 but it missed several deadlines. Yelachenahalli-Silk Institute corridor is the first one to be opened under the phase 2 of Namma Metro that was sanctioned in 2014.

Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC) was handed over the construction work in 2016 with a task to complete it in 27 months. However, the company missed the 15 August 2020 and 1 November 2020 deadlines due to shortage of workforce courtesy the Covid-19 pandemic.
