The Bengaluru-Mysuru highway is soon to be upgraded into a 10-lane expressway with the Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy having announced that the work on the project will begin from the end of this month.
Holding a meeting with the officials of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Energy, Public Works Department (PWD) and Revenue, Kumaraswamy emphasised on the need to begin the work at the earliest possible date, reported Deccan Herald.
In order to obtain the necessary clearances for the acquisition of revenue, forest lands, shifting power lines and poles, he directed the aforementioned departments to do the same as soon as possible. The current four-lane road will be upgraded into a 10-lane one by the NHAI at a cost of Rs 7,000 crore.
Meanwhile, National Highways in Bengaluru, Chitradurga, Mangaluru, Ballari, Kalaburagi, Ramanagara and Tumakuru totalling about 3,460 km in length are also being upgraded into four and six-lane highways. He added that the cost of these projects is estimated at about Rs 36,000 crore.
