Bengaluru’s First Of Its Kind ‘Kasa Kiosks’: More Manned Stalls For Garbage Collection, Segregation Soon

Kasa Kiosk, a manned stall to segregate waste in Bengaluru was launched in the city back in December last year. First of its kind, the kiosks aimed to improve conditions of the solid waste management. Now as per a report in The Hindu, there are more such kiosks in the offing.
A joint effort of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Saahas-an NGO and Omega Healthcare, it ensure that the black-spots are cleared and do not turn into a dumping site for garbage.
The Hindu quoted CEO of Saahas Divya Tiwari as saying, “Huge garbage compactors would be parked by the side of road, often with waste spilling out, while leachate dripped onto the road. Now, the whole area has been transformed and it is clean, though compactors and auto tippers continue to occupy some space on the road.”
BBMP’s Special Commissioner D Randeep said, “We have made a budget provision in the forthcoming Nagarottana Funds to set up such manned kiosks,” The Hindu reported. They are looking for people to set up the kiosks under corporate social responsibility (CSR).
About 150 kg of waste comes in everyday to the kiosks out of which 120 kg is wet waste. The kiosks operate in two shifts- 7 AM to 11 AM and 7 PM to 11 PM. These kiosks are especially beneficial for those areas where garbage collection doesn’t happen on a regular basis.
