In a big infrastructure and connectivity boost for Uttarakhand, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday (8 April) said that the Centre has approved 28 highway projects worth Rs 1,210.17 crore for the state, reports Economic Times.
The projects involve building of 231.04 kilometres of highways including strengthing work on several highways in the hill state.
Besides, the construction of a 900.3-metres-long tunnel in Rudraprayag, and a major bridge on Alaknanda river which would connect National Highway (NH)-107 to NH-7 have also been approved.
The bridge and the tunnel will be constructed on the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) mode under the State's Public Works Department (PWD) with a budget of Rs 248.51 crore.
The Centre has also approved the strengthening of NH-309B on EPC mode under the State Public Works Department (PWD) with a budget of Rs 48.19 crore.
Other projects approved by the Centre include rehabilitation and up-gradation of Askot-Lipulekh on an EPC basis for Phase-I under Project Hirak of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) under the Bharatmala Pariyojna with a budget outlay of Rs 603.92 crore.
