Yediyurappa after swearing-in as Karnataka Chief Minister

Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa won the trust vote in the state assembly via a voice vote, Times of India has reported.

He had sworn-in as the Chief Minister on Friday (26 July) after the collapse of the Congress-JD(S) combine thanks to mass rebellion among its ranks.

This trust vote win has ensured that Karnataka would continue with the BJP government for at least the next six months as any fresh trust vote can only be moved post that duration.

In his first order of business after winning the trust vote, Yediyurappa tabled the Finance Bill (vote on account) for the next three months, which would come as a relief for state government employees. This supplementary budget was also passed by the state assembly via voice vote.

Karnataka speaker K R Ramesh Kumar who is expected to announce his resignation, has disqualified all 17 rebel MLAs, who are now expected to appeal the same in the Supreme Court.
