BJP Pulls Out Of Alliance With PDP In J&K, Mehbooba Mufti Resigns As Chief Minister

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to pull out of the alliance with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). The decision came after BJP national president Amit Shah held a meeting in Delhi on Tuesday with top leaders of the party and BJP ministers part of the J&K government.
"It had become untenable to continue with PDP government in Kashmir," NDTV quoted senior BJP leader Ram Madhav as saying. "Fundamental rights of citizens including right to life and free speech are in danger," he added.
In the 89-member state assembly where the majority mark is 45, the BJP has 25 MLAs and the Mehbooba Mufti-led PDP has 28.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti submitted her resignation to the Governor shortly after the BJP announced that is pulling out of the alliance. Amid political crisis, governor’s rule is likely to be imposed in the state.
The rift between the two parties widened after the centre decided to resume anti-terror operations in the state after Ramzan.
The government took the decision after data showed that terror activities had more than doubled during the ceasefire, which was proposed by the PDP.
