Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray (@OfficeofUT/Twitter)
The BJP on Wednesday (8 January) registered a notable victory in the Osmanabad Zila Parishad polls after getting support of the local Shiv Sena MLA Tanaji Sawant who got seven Shiv Sena Zila Parishad members to vote for the BJP, UNI has reported.
In the election for the Zila Parishad President, the BJP had fielded Asmita Kamble as the candidate. Her opponent was the joint Maha Vikas Aghadi candidate Ankita Sherkane who belonged to the Shiv Sena.
Sherkane though had to taste defeat after seven Shiv Sena leaders instructed by Savant voted in favour of Kamble, thus helping her poll 30 votes. Sherkane on the other hand polled 23.
Savant was reportedly unhappy with the party after being overlooked for a ministerial post in the Uddhav Thackeray led government.
