A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker, identified as Mullapram Ezhuthan Santhosh, was hacked to death in Kannur district of Kerala on Wednesday (18 January). BJP and the locals have accused activists from the ruling CPI(M) for the murder. According to Times of India, Santhosh was the former Mukhya Shikshak of the RSS unit in Andallur and the booth president of BJP. Over 20 political workers have been murdered in Kannur in just last eight months, the daily reported.
According to reports, 52-year-old Santhosh was killed at Andaloor near Dharmadom in Kannur district at 11 PM. Santhosh, who was critically injured, informed a friend after the attack and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Doctors at the hospital, as locals informed, declared him brought dead. Santosh is survived by his wife and two children.
According to ANI, police has arrested some persons and is questioning them. BJP has called for a dawn-to-dusk hartal in Thalassery city, informing that the ongoing Schools Art Festival will not be targeted.
The attack shouldn’t come as a surprise because as many as 40 BJP-RSS workers have been attacked in the communist-led state during the past one year. On 6 January, a 50-year-old BJP worker died of burns in Thrissur district after goons from CPI (M) set fire to his house in Kanjikode, Palakkad.
