BlackBerry has brought into India its new Android-powered smartphones, the DTEK 50 and DTEK 60. The Canadian tech giant also announced a partnership with Optiemus, India's largest mobile phone distributor. The partnership will see Optiemus distribute and promote BlackBerry handsets in India.

While the mid-range DTEK 50 is priced at Rs 21,990, DTEK 60 falls in the premium segment and is priced at Rs 46,990. The DTEK 50 features a 5.2-inch full-HD display, 3GB of RAM, a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera with LED flash. The device has 2TB of expandable memory and houses a 2,610mAh battery. The DTEK 60 features a 5.5-inch quad-HD display, 4GB RAM, a 21MP rest camera and an 8MP front camera. The device houses a 3,000mAh battery and also packs a fingerprint sensor.

"India is a very important market for BlackBerry and we are delighted to announce a new partnership with Optiemus Infracom that strengthens our network of key partners in India and enables us to deliver our secure BlackBerry Android experience to more customers," Alex Thurber, senior vice-president of global device sales, BlackBerry, was quoted by IANS as saying.

The DTEK 50 and DTEK 60 represent a change in strategy for BlackBerry, one where the company will focus solely on software. The company has outsourced its hardware manufacturing requirements to other companies. Alcatel is responsible for the manufacturing of the DTEK 50 and DTEK 60.
