FasTag (Pic Via Amazon Website)
FASTag, an electronic toll collection system, will now be available on e-commerce platform Amazon to ensure easier availability of it at the doorsteps of customers. IHMCL, a company promoted by the NHAI (National Highways Authority Limited), launched the FASTag in January 2019.
These tags are ‘bank neutral’ which means there is no pre-assigned bank and the customer can choose a bank of his choice by linking the tag to his existing bank account.
Currently, the bank linking facility is available for seven member banks - SBI, AXIS, IndusInd, Equitas Small Finance bank, ICICI and Paytm Payments bank, according to an official statement by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
The online NHAI FASTag has been conceived in a DIY (Do-It-Yourself) concept where the customer can to activate it by entering his vehicle and personal details. The tags will only be available for Car, Jeep and Van for now.
At the moment the tags are sold by 22 certain banks and NH toll plazas but do not allow customers to link bank account of their choice. FASTags are also available at fuel stations and Identified Common Service Centres (CSC).
FASTags employs Radio Frequency Identification technology for making toll payments directly and is affixed to the windscreen of the vehicle without stopping for cash payments thus saving time, money and fuel.
