Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is all set to launch RISAT-2BR1 satellite on 22 May from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. The satellite, which is more advanced than the previous RISAT-series satellites, will have enhanced surveillance and imaging capabilities, and its synthetic aperture radar (SAR) can penetrate and zoom through clouds and capture images up to a resolution of one metre, reports Times of India.
The RISAT satellite will boost all-weather surveillance capabilities of Indian Armed forces by detecting any potential threat around the Indian borders. It can capture images of buildings or an object at least two to three times a day and distinguish between two objects separated by one metre distance. It can significantly increase India’s disaster management capabilities.
According to the report, the satellite will help track the activities of jihadi terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and also keep an eye on the infiltrators at terror launchpads along the LoC. It can track hostile ships at sea, monitor the Chinese naval vessels in the Indian Ocean and Pakistani warships in the Arabian sea.
