Boost To Military Infrastructure Along China Border: IAF Set To Operationalise Vijaynagar Air Field In Arunachal

In a bid to boost the military infrastructure along the China border, the Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to operationalise an airfield in India’s easternmost state Arunachal Pradesh, reports Times of India.
According to the report, the IAF’s Vijaynagar Advanced Landing Ground (ALG) in Arunachal will be operationalised on Wednesday (18 September).
The resurfaced Vijaynagar ALG will be jointly inaugurated by the Eastern Air Commander Air Marshal RD Mathur and Eastern Army Commander Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan, according to the defence spokesperson (Shillong) Wing Commander Ratnakar Singh.
As per the report, the officials will land at Vijaynagar ALG in An-32, a turboprop twin-engined, military transport aircraft.
Situated in a remote corner of Arunachal, Vijayanagar has no road connectivity. The area is strategically important as it is close to the China as well as Myanmar border.
In its efforts to strengthen the military infrastructure along the China border, the IAF has revived a total of eight ALGs in Arunachal. Besides Vijayanagar, the other ALGs are Pasighat, Mechuka, Walong, Tuting , Ziro , Along and Tawang.
Vijaynagar ALG, which was recently upgraded, has been non-operational since 2016 as repair works were required on it.
