The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has filed a police complaint against unknown individuals following the alleged leak of the Bengali paper of the Madhyamik exam on social media such as WhatsApp, reports The Indian Express. The leak was discovered yesterday (Tuesday, 12 February 2019) which was the first day of the Madhyamik exams in Ratua constituency of Malda.
The decision to lodge the complaint was made after a senior official of the board was sent a photograph of the Bengali question paper on WhatsApp.
WBBSE president Kalyanmoy Ganguly stated that the complaint has been submitted at the Bidhannagar police commissionerate Cyber Crime Cell. He stated that the board wanted to find the persons responsible for the leak.
Ganguly rejected any possibility of re-examination of the Bengali paper, claiming that the images of the question paper were circulated after students had already started writing the paper in their centres and hence the episode could not be termed a leak.
As many as 10.66 lakh students from across the state sat for the examinations, which commenced yesterday. The class X papers will last till 22 February 2019.
This is not the first instance of such a leak taking place in the state. In 2018, the headmaster of a high school in Jalpaiguri district was found to have leaked a board exam paper. That teacher was removed from his position after his hand in the matter was revealed.
