Burqa Is Worn By Few Women Out Of Ignorance, Islamic Doctrines Don’t Support It: TNTJ Chief Abdul Rahim

Tamil Nadu Thowheedh Jamath (TNTJ) General Secretary Abdul Rahim on Friday (3 May) said that covering of face and hands is not Islamic and women who follow them are ignorant of the Islamic Doctrine, reports The New Indian Express (TNIE).
Participating in a protest at Chepauk, Rahim along with 700 men and women condemned the terrorist attack in Sri Lanka. He added that the Sri Lankan government’s ban on the burqa was aimed at identifying whether the person is a man or a woman and that the prohibition is not against Islam.
The protest, in which children also participated, raised slogans condemning the terror attacks and demanded to hang those responsible.
Rahim stated that it was unfortunate that few people with ulterior motives were trying to link the terror attack in Sri Lanka to TNTJ.
“We have been preaching among Muslim women not to cover the face and hands for nearly a decade. Such practice is followed by a few women out of ignorance and Islamic doctrines never support such practices,” he said.
Noting that that terror doesn’t have religion, the Secretary gave the example of the shootings in New Zealand in which 51 people were killed.
Following the burqa ban in Sri Lanka, a Muslim educational institution in Kerala has also banned the face-covering veil.
