In an attempt to conserve the river Cauvery, its ecosystem and perennial flow, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudeva, the founder of Isha foundation has launched a campaign named "Cauvery Calling" in Bengaluru on Saturday (20 July), reports Asian News International (ANI).
“Forever Cauvery has embraced & nourished us. A time has come when we have to embrace & nourish Cauvery. Cauvery is calling; do you have a heart to hear?”said Sadhguru.
The campaign aims to bring farmers and riverine communities on the same page and garner their support to convert the river banks into a minimum wide stretch of forest to conserve both, soil and water.
During the campaign, Sadhguru will personally ride across the length of the river - from Talacauvery (Kodagu) to Thiruvaur to raise awareness about the urgent need to revitalise Cauvery. This will be followed by the launch of the Cauvery river revitalisation project.
The project will facilitate plantation of 242 crore trees in Cauvery Basin (with 73 crore trees in the first phase). The movement aims to bring together farmers and riverine communities of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu in a collaborative bid to revive the river.
It should be noted that the Isha Foundation is already working on an agroforestry model which engages over 70,000 farmers in Tamil Nadu.
