Yesterday (15 March), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a case against 17 Indian Army officials in connection to irregularities in recruitment of officers, and other ranks through Service Selection Board (SSB), reports ANI.

The accused include Lt Col, Major, Naib Subedar, Sepoy etc. as well as six civilians. They are facing allegations pertaining to bribery and irregularities.

Prior to this, CBI had conducted raids on multiple locations.

Reportedly, the searches were conducted yesterday at 30 places including Base Hospital, Cantonment, other Army establishments, civilian areas in Kapurthala, Bhathinda, Delhi, Kaithal, Palwal, Lucknow, Bareili, Gorakhpur, Vishakhapatnam, Jaipur, Guwahati, Jorhat and Chirangon.

"The searches at 30 places led to recovery of several incriminating documents,” CBI was quoted as saying.

On 14 March, Indian Army handed over the case concerning malpractices in officers’ selections at its Punjab centre to the CBI.

The Service Selection Centre (SSC) is under scrutiny for irregularities with regards to candidate selection at the Kapurthala district in Punjab.

The case was detected during an operation of military intelligence and the CBI is investigating it in detail now.

Apparently, a tipoff revealing a junior officer’s involvement in these malpractices triggered the initial probe. Now, it has come into light that multiple insiders, high-ranking officers along with civilians could be engaged in this entire conspiracy.
