The Delhi High Court has quashed the cadre allocations made by the Centre of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) service officers of the 2018 batch under the new cadre allocation policy, reports Live Law.

The court has directed the central government to undertake fresh cadre allocation of the successful candidates allocated to the IAS and IPS.

The decision of the Delhi HC came on four separate petitions which challenged the “unfair” cadre allocation to IPS on the basis of the results of the 2017 Civil Services Examination (CSE). The petitioners sought HC’s diretion to the centres to issue a new list allocating the respective cadres to the selected IPS candidates in the 2017 CSE on the basis of merit and performances indicated in the online form.

The HC bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Rekha Palli held that cadre allocation is a matter which would affect the career of the officers for all times to come and therefore directed the Centre to do a fresh cadre allocation of the successful candidates allocated to the IPS and IAS, as per their merit and taking into consideration their preferences.
