Centre Starts Evicting Offices Of Congress Mouthpiece National Herald, Delhi HC Says Status Quo Be Maintained

The eviction of Associated Journals Limited (AJL) offices in Delhi, was started by government officials on Thursday (15 November), as reported by The Week. National Herald, the mouthpiece of India’s principal opposition party, Congress, is located in the AJL office of Herald House.
This comes after the Delhi High Court adjourned the hearing of the National Herald case to 22 November and ordered that ‘status quo’ to be maintained. The case pertains to the cancellation of AJL’s lease by the Centre on the violation of the lease clause. The centre had asked National Herald to vacate the premises.
“It's a malicious prosecution and impugned order vitiated by ulterior political motives,” Abhishek M. Singhvi, Congress’ counsel stated.
In 2011, a firm named Young India was established and it offered loans to AJL to settle its debts. In return, AJL would transfer all of its shares to the former. Congress President Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi are both rumoured to hold 38 per cent stake each in the company, Young India.
The IT department has stated the Congress President did not wilfully disclose his income derived from Young India for the AY 2011-2012.
