The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has directed airlines to be sensitive of the flood situation in Kerala and cap ticket prices to Rs 10,000 on the Delhi-Kerala route, The New Indian Express has reported.

The Delhi-Kozhikode flight ticket prices, however, continued to be above Rs 10,000 reportedly.

Civil Aviation minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted out the directive to the airlines, while also thanking them for carrying the relief materials free of charge.

The Civil Aviation Ministry has said that fares on 18 domestic routes are being monitored, as reported by Business Standard.

Minister of Statistics & Programme Implementation Sadananda Gowda, however, called out the airlines for the sky-rocketing prices. He demanded that the prices should be immediately capped on flights operating in the sector.

Kerala is battling its worst flood in 100 years with red-alert having being sounded in most districts of the state. The floods and accompanying landslides have led to over 100 deaths in just one day with the overall toll having reached 167, as informed by CM Pinarayi Vijayan. Over 2 lakh people have taken shelter in relief camps in the state.
