Centre To Establish 1,023 Fast Track Courts For Speedy Trial Of Crime Against Women: Ravi Shankar Prasad

The Union Law Ministry has embarked on a major overhaul of the judicial system to ensure speedy trial in crimes against women by proposing to establish a whopping 1,023 fast track courts (FTCs) across the nation, reports Asian News International (ANI).
Making the decision public, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, "There is anger in the country about what is happening with our daughters and sisters. The judicial system must understand this anger and make arrangements for a speedy trial."
Prasad added that the Government of India has proposed to establish and operationalise at the earliest, as many as 1,023 FTCs with assistance from the State Governments, to particularly deal with the cases under the stringent laws of POCSO.
Prasad also shared that the Government of India had achieved consensus with the States on 400 of the 1,023 FTCs proposed by it, while having operationalised more than 160 of the proposed FTCs. He also added that more than 704 FTCs are already operational in the nation.
