Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has decided to curb malpractices and implement best practices in other universities, Times of India has reported.
Currently, Chartered Accountant (CA) education is dependent upon the Chartered Accountant Act 1949. This Act does not allow re-evaluation of answers in any given exam. President of the ICAI, Naveen Gupta, has said that the body will take up this reform soon.
“Re-evaluation will soon be introduced for all CA exams as ICAI is considering bringing together a scheme of amendments in the Chartered Accountant Act 1949, for which dialogues with the University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) and Ministry of HRD have already been initiated,” Gupta told Economic Times.
He also added that the ICAI council has approved changes recommended by the board in the syllabus at the foundation, intermediate and final levels. “The updated details will soon be uploaded on the ICAI website,” Gupta said.
Live virtual classes for CA students, which were earlier available only in the regional branch offices, will now be accessible to students on their laptops and mobile phones for a moderate fee. Easy access to study material on the ICAI website will reduce students’ dependency on coaching centres.
