The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has invited bids for the construction of twin tunnels and five underground stations (Package UG-06) connecting Kolathur and Nathamuni of the city metro’s Line 5, reports The Metro Rail Guy.

The 47-km long Line 5 of Chennai Metro will have 48 stations and connect Madhavaram to Sholinganallur. The 5.8 km long underground civil package is positioned towards its northern end. This is reportedly the third time that a tender notice has been issued for Line 5 stretch of the Chennai Metro.

Underground stations are planned to be constructed at Kolathur, Srinivasa Nagar, Villivakam sub-urban station, Villivakam bus-terminus and Nathamuni.

Entry-exit facilities in these stations along with plumbing work, earthmat, architectural finishes including signages, ventilation shafts and twin bored tunnels from Kolathur retrieval shaft to Nathamuni launching shaft are slated to be built. Furthermore, ramps with U-section in the fifth corridor of the CMRL phase-II project are also to be constructed.

The final date for the submission of proposals is 7 May 2021 and the overall completion period of the underground package is slated to be around 3 years and 10 months (1395 days).
