Four troops from the Border Security Force (BSF) were martyred, and two were injured yesterday (4 March) in a firefight with Maoist terrorists in the Kanker district of Chhattisgarh, reports Hindustan Times.

“Four personnel including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) were killed in the encounter. The exchange of fire started when a team of 114 Battalion of BSF personnel deployed in Pakhanjur town was on a routine combing operation near Mahala village,” IG Bastar, Vivekanand Sinha said.

Sinha added that casualties had also been inflicted upon the Maoists in the gunfight but they had managed to flee into the nearby forests.

Another police officer from the area, S P Kanker, R L Druve, stated that a massive combing operation is currently underway in the Maoist-affected parts of the district.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel issued a condemnation of the terrorist attack.

“We will take strict action against the Maoists and violence will not be tolerated. Our security forces are capable of taking appropriate action,” the chief minister said.
