China has reportedly threatened Canada with grave outcomes if Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou is not promptly released, reports Mint. It has also described her arrest as “unreasonable, unconscionable and vile in nature".

In its first move since her arrest on 1 December, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng summoned Canadian envoy, John McCallum to China to demand her release.

Le revealed to McCallum that the arrest was an extreme violation of a Chinese citizens' legitimate rights and interests. The move disregarded the law, and Canada ought to be considered responsible if Meng was not promptly released, Le said in the statement.

Meng's arrest, on allegations that she committed fraud to avoid sanctions against Iran, has turned into a boiling point between US and China.

“We will continue to follow the bail hearing,” Huawei spokesman Glenn Schloss wrote in an emailed statement. “We have every confidence that the Canadian and US legal systems will reach the right conclusion.”

Meng was arrested in Vancouver at the request of United States while she was flying from Hong Kong to Mexico with a stop in the Canadian city.
