China Looks To Allow More Indian Agricultural Products In Its Markets; Signs Protocol For Import Of Indian Chilli Meal

Coming as a shot in the arm for India, the Commerce Secretary Anup Wadhawan on Thursday (9 May 2019) signed a protocol for the export of Indian chilli meal to China with the vice-minister of the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC), Li Guo.

Wadhawan also brought to the discussion table issues pertaining to India's pending request for the greater export of Indian farm products to the Chinese markets. He underscored the issues related to exporting Indian bovine meat and soyabeal meal to China, reports The Hindu BusinessLine.

China meanwhile responded positively to the Indian concerns promising to look into the matters, adding that it wanted the exports to be approved by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

A large gamut of Indian agricultural products await clearance from China for being exported to the dragon nation. These include pomegranate, soyabean meal, okra, sapota, banana, papaya, pineapple, maize and sorghum. Among these, the draft protocol for okra is ready and is expected to be finalised soon soyabean meal.
