There have been 99 new coronavirus cases and 63 fresh asymptomatic infections reported in just one day (Saturday) in China . This sudden surge has raised concerns about a possible second wave of the pandemic in the country.
China's National Health Commission (NHC) has said that 1,280 imported cases of Coronavirus infections were reported as of Saturday. While 481 have been discharged from hospitals there are 36 reportedly in severe conditions and another 799 being treated.
Of the 99 new infection cases reported on Saturday, 97 were of people who had returned from abroad, if Chinese authorities are to be believed.
Of the 63 new asymptomatic cases, only 12 were from abroad. In total 1086 asymptomatic cases, including 332 infections from abroad, are being kept under medical observation.
The NHC has said that the number of deaths due to Coronavirus in China stood at just 3,339 with no new fatalities reported on Saturday. These numbers have been widely contested with some estimates pegging the casualty at more than 40,000 deaths.
CHC's new revelations about infections from abroad and the surge to nearly a hundred new cases a day have raised concerns about a second wave of infections spreading across China. The surge in reported infections comes at a time when China has begun lifting most of the Coronavirus related lockdown restrictions.
