The commanding officer on the Chinese side is one of those killed during a violent face-off with the Indian Army in Eastern Ladakh's Galwan valley on Monday night (15 June), ANI has reported.

Reports have indicated that India inflicted 43 casualties on the Chinese side during the bloody hand-to-hand and melee combat.

Subsequently it was reported that based on evacuation carried out by China along the border it has been assessed that China has suffered a significant number of casualties. The number of casualties though difficult to pinpoint are estimated to be much more than 40.

Twenty Indian Army soldiers were martyred during the operation, which was premeditated by China.
