General Secretary Xi Jinping led Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has finalised plans to turn the People's Liberation Army (PLA) into a fully modern military on par with the United States (US)'s army by 2027, reports Economic Times.
The year 2027 marks the centennial year of PLA's formation.
The plan to transform PLA by 2027 was approved at the fifth plenary session of the 19th CCP Central Committee.
The session lasted a total of four days and witnessed the adoption of Jinping's proposals for the formulation of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) for National Economic and Social Development and the Long-Range Objectives Through the Year 2035.
Meanwhile, it should be noted that Jinping's Vision 2035 plan has sparked speculation that he could continue in power for the next 15 years. This gains significance as back in 2018, the CCP had removed the two-five-year term limit for the post of President. Jinping's is presently serving his second term as CHina's President and his ongoing term shall end in 2022.
