Cleaning Up World’s Highest Rubbish Dump: Dedicated Team Collects Three Tonnes Of Waste From Mount Everest

A dedicated team sent to Mount Everest, with an ambitious plan to clean the world’s highest rubbish dump from the waste material lying there, has collected three tonnes of garbage in the first two weeks, Yahoo News has reported.
According to the report, decades of commercial mountaineering has taken its toll on the pristine mountain as an increasing number of climbers left waste materials polluting it.
The summit of the 8,848 m peak has been littered with fluorescent tents, discarded climbing equipment, empty gas canisters and even human excrement.
With the onset of the spring climbing season this year, the Nepal government sent a 14-member team with a target of bringing back 10 tonnes of trash from Everest within one and a half month.
As per the report, the team has collected and bundled three tonnes of rubbish, including empty bottles, cans, plastics and discarding climbing gear from the base camp and surrounding areas.
One-third of the collected trash was transported via a helicopter to Kathmandu for recycling while the remaining biodegradable trash was taken to the Okhaldhunga district for proper disposal.
