Three associates of Ghulam Mohammed Bhat, a close aid of Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, have been convicted by Delhi’s Patiala House court in a 2011 terror funding case, India Today has reported.

The trio, Mohd Sadiq Ginai, Ghulam Jeelani Liloo and Farooq Ahmed Dagga, pleaded guilty to the charges of securing funds for financing Hizbul Mujahideen’s terror activities from Pakistan via the hawala route.

They have been charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act by the court while the case on Bhat is still going on. They have been indicted for collecting more than Rs 4.57 crore from Pakistan through hawala transactions for funding terrorism in the Kashmir Valley.

Earlier this year, a similar terror funding case was filed against Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s son by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He has been charged under section 120-B of the IPC and 13, 17, 18, 20, 21, 38 and 40 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, for raising, receiving, collecting 'terror funds' and holding proceeds of terrorism. His bail plea was rejected by the Delhi High Court on 31 May.
