Polit Bureau member of Communist Party of India - Marxist Leninist and activist Kavita Krishnan equated Indian farmers with Kashmir separatists through a fake picture.

The tweet read, “If you don't think the farmer is a terrorist - and I hope you don't - if you empathise with his anger, I hope you'll think again before you call a Kashmiri kid with a stone in his hand a terrorist.”

Such a comparison between protesting farmers and Kashmiri stone pelters led Twitter users to further investigate the matter, following which it was found that the picture dated to a 2013 protest in Uttar Pradesh.

Incidentally, the image dating to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) era, was not related to any farmer protest, but was linked to a clash in Meerut between members of a banned ‘Sarvadaliya Mahapanchayat’ and security forces.

5000-6000 people had gathered to attend the event but were dispersed by central paramilitary forces and provincial armed constabulary.

As reported here, the tweet which went viral misrepresented a member of a Mahapanchayat as a farmer. It was misused to equate the person in the image to a Kashmiri stone-pelters who have been reckless in their violence against the Indian armed forces.

After being called out on social media Krishnan decided to brazen things out by asserting that her point stood regardless.
