As a major education reform, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be conducting two-level exams for Class-10 Mathematics and English subjects from 2020 onwards, reports Indian Express.
In the new system, a total of 20 marks will be assigned for school-based assessment in each of the exams. And, a student will have to first clear this school-based assessment to be considered as a candidate for board examinations.
Emphasising the increasing need for school-based internal assessment of the students, CBSE has called the development as 'learner centric'. Also, as a result of this system, regular theory examinations will now be conducted for 80 marks instead of 100 marks.
Further, it must be noted that for mathematics in Class X, students will now have an option to choose the difficulty level of the exam from 'standard' or 'basic' level.
However, those opting for an easier version will not be allowed to take mathematics as a major subject in higher studies. This initiative has also been implemented keeping in mind the 2020 board examinations.
