In another awkward episode for actress-turned-politician Urmila Matondkar, who is contesting the Lok Sabha elections as the Congress candidate from the Mumbai North constituency, a group of people chanted “Modi, Modi” when she she was leading a rally at Malad market yesterday (16 April), reports DNA.

This follows a similar instance of Modi supporters chanting the name of the ruling party’s leader when Matondkar was at the Borivali station on Monday (15 April)

At the rally which passed through Malad market, Matondkar did not respond to the bystanders’ chants, but kept waiving her hands at the crowd.

BJP MP Gopal Shetty, who is the incumbent from the Mumbai North constituency, remarked that even as candidates had the right to conduct their game, people were also vested with a right to express their views.

He condemned the physical attack by Congress workers on BJP supporters at the Borivali station; the BJP has also asked the Election Commission and the police to look into the matter.

After the confrontation at Borivali station, Matondkar had claimed that she was in fear for her life from alleged BJP goons.

Matondkar has been the subject of much controversy during the campaign for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections; the Congress leader made comments on television calling Hinduism “the most violent religion”. The remarks were widely condemned and Matondkar claimed that her comments had been misinterpreted.
