As per reports, the Congress party has said it would not contest on seven Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh which are currently held or being contested by the key leaders of Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) alliance.

The SP-BSP alliance has reportedly left two seats in Uttar Pradesh - Amethi and Raebareli - both held by the first family of Congress.

According to the report, the Congress party will not field its candidates in parliamentary constituency including Mainpuri and Kannauj, from where SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav and his daughter-in-law Dimple Yadav are expected to contest the Lok Sabha election respectively.

Besides, prospective seats of Rashtriya Lok Dal’s Ajit Singh and Jayant Chaudhary as well as Mayawati, would also be on the “no contest” list of Congress.

However, BSP chief Mayawati has rebuffed the offer and said that the Congress party is absolutely free to contest elections on all the 80 seats of Uttar Pradesh. She also said that Congress should not spread wrong impression by vacating these seven seats.

As per the report, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati had left the national party of their alliance after being upset with what they called tardy and sometimes negative communication from the Congress to seat sharing.
