A woman member of National Student's Union of India (NSUI), the students' body of the Congress party, has alleged that NSUI national president Fairoz Khan sexually harassed her.

The woman, who is from Chhattisgarh, has said that Khan is abetting women members to get into sexual relations with him in lieu of political posts, reports The Pioneer.

Her complaint came in public knowledge after an email by her to a union minister in Chhattisgarh, that also has screenshots of her Whatsapp conversations with Khan, was leaked, reports ABP News. The leaked email shows Khan pressurising the woman’s sister to come to a hotel in Bengaluru in the second week of May, in the midst of Karnataka assembly crisis.

The victim told The Times of India, “Khan has been harassing me for months and has been making sexual advances towards several other female members of the organisation; including my sister whom he was constantly texting in Bengaluru.”

The woman also told TOI that she wrote to the NSUI top brass and several Congress leaders two weeks ago but never heard from them. She had also written a letter in which she has alleged that there is no Internal Complaints Committee in NSUI.

The Congress has refuted the charges that the complainant’s plea went unheard. The party has reportedly set up a committee comprising of Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev, Lok Sabha MP Deepender Hooda and Ragini Nayak to probe the matter.
