Senior BJP leader and minority affairs minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Wednesday (3 March) launched a scathing attack against Congress, stating that a party which had a "DNA of maximum corruption" was speaking on providing a minimum income to the poor, reports Economic Times (ET).

"The Congress, which has a DNA of maximum corruption, is now talking about minimum income," Naqvi said while addressing a public meeting in Rampur in Uttar Pradesh. “The Congress, which considers the country's poverty as a political property will not allow the poor to come out of poverty," Naqvi said.

As part of its manifesto for the 2019 general elections, Congress promised to roll out the NYAY scheme if voted to power. Under the plan, a cash transfer Rs 72,000 per year will be made to the bank accounts of the 20 per cent of the most impoverished families in the country.

Naqvi termed the Congress party as a "history-sheeter" in "making (a) mockery of poverty.” He further asked the party to realise that "mountain of slogans" will not garner votes from the public. “Despite being in power for decades, the Congress did nothing for the poor,” he claimed.

Perfect Prime Minister

On the other hand, Naqvi praised Prime Minister's statesmanship over the past five years and said that he had worked for the welfare of the poor throughout his tenure. “The entire country knows Modi is the perfect prime minister for the progress, prosperity and safety of the country,” he added.
