In his address in Assam's Sonitpur, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi addressed the recent ‘toolkit’ fiasco in the ongoing farmers’ protests.

“People who are conspiring to defame India have stooped so low that they are not sparing even Indian tea. You must have heard in news that these conspirators are vowing to malign the image of Indian tea in a systematic manner across the world,” he was quoted as saying by ANI.

“Some documents that have come up reveal that some foreign powers are planning to attack India's image associated with tea. Will you accept this attack? You will accept the people involved in this attack? Will you accept those praising these attackers?” he asked.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was attending a programme in Dhekiajuli of Sonitpur district of Assam. He launched the ‘Asom Mala’ programme to boost the state’s road infrastructure. The project will contribute to Assam’s economic progress and improve connectivity.

He also laid the foundation stones of medical colleges and hospitals in Biswanath and Charaideo.

The PM addressed the development in the state under NDA-led government in the past years.

“Northeast is heading on the road of development and Assam is playing a significant role in it. Assam is an example of how collective efforts yield good results,” he said.

"Till 2016, Assam had only six medical colleges. In the last five years, we have begun work on the construction of six more medical colleges. Seeing the need in North and Upper Assam, foundation stones have been laid for two more medical colleges in Biswanath and Charaideo.”

"It is my dream to ensure that every state has at least one medical college and one technical college that teaches in mother tongue,” he said.

The prime minister also promised the people of Assam that when his government comes to power after the election, they will establish a medical and technical college in the local language.
